4 Monos Viticultores Vinos De La Sierra De Gredos GR 10 Tinto 2021 1.5L
4 Monos, which translates to 4 Monkeys, is...
4 Monos, which translates to 4 Monkeys, is a team of four friends who met while hiking in the Gredos mountains, one of the most profound interesting terroirs to emerge in recent years as we explore the more modern expressions of Spanish wine. An hour outside of Madrid, the Sierra de Gredos range has high elevation vineyards that are a collision of Mediterranean and Alpine influences. The organic grapes that go into the GR-10 are treated minimally, with a light hand in the cellar, resulting in a wine that’s affordable but still highly representative of the Sierra de Gredos terroir. It’s juicy, fruit forward, but still has an earthy complexity, and being in Magnum it’s easy to bring to a party.

A rich Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s most delicious crus where the fruit is picked, pressed and fermented before aging in new oak for three years. This is a wine that is never filtered and is left to age further in bottle before release where the flavors have time to harmonize. Boasso is a smaller producer and this wine offers a great value in Barolo that will develop more complexity with age.

Braida Bricco dell’ Uccellone 2021

A gorgeous Barbera that showcases the sensual and powerful side of the grape. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak before another year in bottle.
We love it, but don’t just take our word for it. Here is the review by the excellent Antonio Galloni from Vinous:
The 2019 Barbera d’Asti Bricco dell’Uccellone is one of the best versions of this wine I can remember tasting. Rich and full-bodied to the core, with stunning depth, the 2019 offers up a beguiling range of black fruit, mocha, chocolate, grilled herbs, lavender and incense. There’s still plenty of concentration and oak to support it, but without the excesses of some recent years. it has been a while since I have been able to say a Braida wine is exciting, but the 2019 certainly is!

Brezza, a very traditional Barolo maker, has been on the up-and-up for the past few years as drinkers swing back to expressiveness and terroir over simple power. The Cannubi is fantastic. Crushed woodsy fruit, silky texture, and flowers are offset by orange zest and herbs.

This is a great entry into the 2019 vintage that can be enjoyed now, but will also be great laid down for a few years. It has the heft that some seek, but there’s plenty of nuance that comes from their deft balance between the wildness of the grapes and the slickness of the cellar hand.

This wine is a synthesis of the Rampolla family’s ideas about wine. It’s weighty, but still remains graceful. Classically styled but with a piercing minerality that lifts the deep, dark fruit. Some critics go as far as to call it transcendent giving it huge scores (97 Points, Vinous; 96 Points James Suckling; 98 Points, Wine Advocate).
